Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

plan to complete a ‘Virtual Land’s End to John o’ Groats cycle’, cycling 874 miles in total to support the South West Wales Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).

I am determined to raise as much awareness as I can and if possible, also raise funds to support local people with this devastating illness after my dad died a year ago, aged just 57, after being diagnosed with MND two years earlier.

MND is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease which affects the brain and spinal cord. It attacks the nerves that control movement and eventually leaves people unable to move, communicate or breathe. There is no cure.

It’s a truly devastating illness but dad faced it with courage, dignity and with unbelievable positivity and humour. He continued to follow his passion and kept cycling as long as he could and in more recent years, cycling was something we enjoyed together.

I’m fortunate to have something that helps me feel close to dad and have been cycling regularly during the last 10 weeks. From recording my rides I was amazed (and a little surprised) to discover I was approaching a big milestone and I’ve now completed 500 miles - but I don’t want to stop there! My goal is to complete a total of 874 miles, the distance to cycle from Land’s End to John o’Groats, as this was one challenge that dad quite fancied but never got around to. I plan to complete the remaining 374 miles by 18 October to coincide with the MND Association’s ‘Mission 5000’ fundraising challenge.

Mission 5000 aims to unite the MND community to cover 5,000 miles, that's a mile for every person living with MND in the UK today with the aim of bringing us closer to achieving out ultimate mission, a world free from MND.
